The hot topic of discussion recently has been about teeth falling out!
We have a few children with wiggly teeth, and Carmella just lost her first tooth!
There have been many ideas put forwards about what happens after teeth fall out...  the tooth fairy has been the main idea - it seems that the tooth fairy brings different items to different children.

The children wanted to find out more - so we read 'I lost my tooth in Africa'... it seems in Africa you get a chicken for your tooth. Since none of us have received a chicken before - we kept on looking.
We then found a book called 'Throw your tooth on the roof' by Selby Beeler.
This books told us about tooth traditions from around the world.
It was a great book, and the children came to the conclusion that many different things happen to teeth.. some people even throw them on the roof!

Carmella brought in a book about the human body... and we had fun reading about all the different parts, especially about how the teeth fit into the skull!
We also found out that losing a tooth does not hurt all that much - thanks to Carmella who explained the whole process! This has put many children's minds at ease!

We are now looking forward to when our first teeth fall out! (except Ms Aini and Jenney who would very much like to keep their adult teeth!)

K1JW got a big surprise at assembly when they were awarded the 'Mustang' from the student council for being great inquirers!

The student council have been looking around the school and talking to students about their inquiries. Our students discussed ways in which we can tell stories and confidently showed the stories they have been creating in pairs. The children also demonstrated how they can use puppets in various ways as well as discussed how to act out stories using masks and props! The student council were impressed!

The children were very excited to receive the mustang - which they are proudly displaying in the classroom.

Great work K1JW ! You are stars!

Over the past few weeks, we have been reading different types of stories, acting out stories, looking at characters, and finding new and exciting ways to tell a story.
The children have come up with many ideas about telling stories such as with the use of 3d as well as ice skating. They have also discovered that dressing up is a great way to tell a story. In this picture, the boys have dressed up to tell the story of the 'little girl that could' , a story they made up about a girl (Maxy) who would try new things - she met many friends along the way. Henry is playing the dentist, Kaden the builder, Jakob the baker and Noam the fairy. They delighted the rest of the class with their story... along with myself!

In the coming weeks, the children will work with a friend to create their own story... they will be using masks, puppets and IPad's to tell their story rather than creating a book. We have been brainstorming today in pairs about the storyline and characters. The children worked well together, listening and talking about their ideas.  I am very much looking forward to their completed stories as I have had a sneak peek today.
