To end our look at the letter ‘r’, we made Rice Krispie Treats (or Rice Bubble Treats as they are commonly known as in New Zealand and Australia!).

The children helped to measure all the ingredients – using their new skills! (We have been doing a lot of measurement activities within our Math unit).

We used 4 cups of marshmallows, 5 cups of rice krispies and a little bit of butter. We melted all the marshmallows – which was described as rainbow mud (Juno). Everyone worked together to stir in all the rainbow mud and then we put the mixture into paper cups. We made 17 Rice Krispie Treats altogether!

Of course, later on after lunch we ate all the Rice Krispie Treats!

I was very impressed how all the children worked together to measure, mix and count the ingredients and treats!

Well done K1JW

Sports Day 14th September 2012

Thank you all for your involvement with Sport Day! The children all had great time taking part in the different events and cheering on the older students in their house teams! Overall, Orchard was the winning team by quite a number of points!  Somerset in second place, Raffles in third and Newton in forth place.

The children have been discussing Sports Day at length in particular, running back down the track when Ms Pana’s K1 class were running their race! They thought this was great fun, although it was mentioned that an accident could have possibly happened! Throwing the beanbag game was also top on their discussion list - Maximillian being able to throw very far and the egg and spoon race, where the egg kept falling off! It was suggested by Juno that using two hands made the egg stay on the spoon better.

On Monday the children were able to see photo’s taken of them in action and they have been reflecting on what they enjoyed doing on the day, and what they might like to try next time.

This week in our phonics study we have been looking at the letter 'M'.
In our discussions, money, masks and motorbikes semed to be the most popular words with 'm' as the beginning sound. We looked at different types of money from around the world and created our own dollar bills. We tried on various masks, retold stories and then created our own masks!

In Maths, with created marshmallow men! we counted the number of large marshmallows, small marshmallows and the amount of sticks we used. We then ATE them!

Next week we will be looking at the letter 'R'.

Ms Jenney
