This week the ES have been celebrating Earth Day.
We have been discussing how we can keep our planet clean and how we can all recycle. The children visited our recycling bins at school and have sorted out some classroom trash (rubbish) to put in the bins. We found that there were bins for paper, plastic, cans and cardboard. We found that there were ants in the cans bin. The children suggested that cans need to be washed before we put them in. A great idea!
We also looked for ways in which we can recycle in the classroom - the children came up with using both sides of the paper and using cardboard boxes for storage of pencils and markers.
During the next few days, we will talk about the use of electricity and the need to conserve it. On Friday we will have Free Dress Day... the children will come to school in Earth colours (green, brown and blue).

This semester, we are focusing on recognising , creating and extending patterns.
To start our unit, we used our bodies to create patterns. The children came up with ideas of how they could make patterns -
Here are their idea's

boy, girl, boy, girl, boy, girl

hand, hand, shoe, shoe, hand, hand, shoe, shoe

stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down

sit on floor, lie down, sit on floor, lie down

shoe, foot, shoe, foot, shoe, foot, shoe, foot

sit forwards, sit backwards, sit forwards, sit backwards

What fun we had creating these patterns - I have attached photo's below of the children's patterns.

Over the coming weeks we will use other materials as well as music to create patterns!

To start our unit 'How We Express Ourselves' we took a visit to the theatre to watch 'Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. We arrived 20 minutes before the show started and we waited for sometime for the show to begin. (In this photo Chikako was having fun with Ms Aini's bag waiting for the show to begin).
We were lucy enough to have the very back seats upstairs - which meant we got a great view of the show.
The show lasted around 50 minutes - there was singing, dancing, Goldilocks father and even a large claw that was trying to knock the bears house down!
The children immediately identified the differences between the play and the book we have in class and spent time on the bus discussing them on the way back to school.
When we arrived back at school - the children were given role play masks to act out the story themselves. What fun they had! Here are some photo's I managed to take.
