For the past 2 weeks, K1JW have been looking around the school for things that move. We started out watching the construction site across from the Middle School (from the third floor so we could look down for a better view). We saw many large cranes, machines and people moving all sorts of building materials around the site. We also watched a man climb up the scaffolding - with no rope attached, and with no hard hat! The children instantly identified this man was being unsafe... and it was suggested that I go over to the site and remind him of the 4 Be's. (It was great to see the children making connections with our schools playground agreements). After leaving the Middle School, we found many other moving things such as flags, trees, vehicles and even a snail in the drain! The children have since identified many more moving things (items at home and in the classroom) and have been using different materials to create their own moveable toys. It has been pretty noisy in the classroom with all that banging going on!
In the coming weeks we will look at how our bodies move and address the 'I wonder' questions, as we have many!
Examples of these are: How do the clouds move around the world?, How does a train move so fast?
